The volcano park
Fascination, adventure and nature in the Eastern Eifel
In the midst of an idyllic and now harmless volcanic landscape, the explosive history of the East Eifel can be experienced at first hand: with its seven information and experience centers and 16 landscape monuments, the volcano park in the district of Mayen-Koblenz explains the volcanic and cultural heritage of the East Eifel.
The world's highest cold-water geyser in Andernach, an almost 2,000-year-old Roman mine near Kretz or the "Land of Volcanoes" in the Lava Dome in Mendig - the adventure centers in the volcano park offer a fascinating journey through time into the world of volcanism and the associated thousands of years of rock mining history in the region. In addition to the Volcano Park Information Center as a central point of contact, the Grubenfeld Adventure Worlds in Mayen, the Bendisberg mine near Langenfeld and the German Pumice Museum in Kaltenengers offer special insights into the history of the industrial area between Andernach and Mayen.
Long-extinct, densely overgrown volcanoes, bizarre mining landscapes and much more: the landscape monuments of the volcano park in the middle of the tranquil hilly landscape are original sites that bear witness to the explosive events that last took place here just 13,000 years ago with the huge Laacher See volcanic eruption. Amidst impressive volcanic rock formations and millennia-old quarries, the geological heritage of the region can be experienced directly at the site of the event.
The volcano park combines fascination, adventure and nature for all ages - go on a journey of discovery and experience the volcanism of the Eastern Eifel up close!
